Liberal is the long established hub of oil and gas activity among the regional trade centers. There are over 100 oil and gas companies and industry support companies within 10 miles of city limits. Infrastructure, oilfield services and experienced labor are in place and ready to go.
Aside from oil and gas, the ethanol production industry partners with agriculture, buying corn from farmers and selling waste as livestock feed. Arkalon Energy, the Liberal location of Conestoga Energy Partners, produces 110,000,000 gallons of ethanol a year.

Seward County Community College / Area Technical School offers workforce development programs as well as degrees in corrosion technology, process technology, machine tool technology, welding and more.
