Over the past decade, America has experienced a technological revolution-not as expected in renewable energy, but rather in the extraction of oil and gas. As a result, domestic supplies of new sources of energy (shale gas, oil from shale, tight sands, natural-gas liquids) are booming. The impact is larger than anyone expected.
This week, the U.S. Energy Information Administration announced that oil production in the country reached its highest level since 1998. 6.5 million barrels per day! That’s an increase of over 900,000 barrels a day from just a year ago.
Much of this comes from America’s newfound ability to draw oil and gas from geological formations that just a few years ago geologists deemed impenetrable.

As a hub for the Oil & Gas Industry in this part of the country, Liberal Kansas is experiencing a bit of a revolution as well with rapid growth in this key industry. Tim Long, CEO of Panhandle Oilfield Services Companies, Inc., says, “We have hired 108 new employees in the past six months. And there is the possibility of adding another 100 in 2013”.
Panhandle Oilfield Services is not alone. Companies are expanding, both in the scope of services they provide as well as the number of employees. In addition, new companies are taking advantage of the unique market that Liberal provides and are moving to Liberal in increasing numbers.
Over 100 oilfield related companies located in Liberal serve the oilfield for a 100-mile radius and any direction. This includes Southwest Kansas, and the Panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. “That makes Liberal unique”, Long states, “Liberal is the center-point of the oilfield industry in the region”.
